Is there a “Toronto jazz” sound? If so, then Joseph Funk is helping to define it. The trumpeter leads the Funk10tet, a group of brass, woodwind and rhythm players presenting original works that are heavily influenced by traditional swing, rhythm and blues and other contemporary pop music played in Canada. Funk won Artist of the Year at the 2025 Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival and is the inaugural recipient (2023) of the Guido Basso Flugelhorn Scholarship.
