Irresistible rhythms and tunes combined with spectacular drumming and jazzy improvisations – that’s pembiche. It is a musical genre and dance form related to merengue, the national dance of the Dominican Republic, where Junior Santos hails from. He immigrated to Toronto in 1989, has played with many bands and in 2021 recorded an album called Conpambiche. Nominated for a JUNO as solo jazz album of the year, it is a lively fusion of Afro-Dominican beats. His concert offers a showcase for Latin jazz.
