When GTA-based drummer Joel Haynes sat down in Vancouver to create a recording called The Return! with three old friends in February 2023, he was surprised by the creative burst that resulted. “The session went great and we just powered through all the tunes,” Joel told blogger Jon McCaslin. The creative momentum had been building for more than 20 years as Joel played in jazz festivals around the world. His quartet’s performance will be a showcase for powerful contemporary jazz.
